Budget
Have your student help plan and prepare a meal! Give them a budget, help them make a grocery list, and then help them stay within their budget as they shop!
Scavenger Hunt
Ask your student what they are currently learning in math. Challenge them to apply it to real life or identify it in the real world. Don’t forget to share it with me!
Estimation
Make a list of objects at home such as a table, ketchup bottle, or picture frame. Have your student estimate the length or width of each object. Use a ruler or tape measure to check their estimation and practice measuring.
Human Calculator
Grab a receipt, cover up the total amount, and have your student calculate the total amount spent. Challenge them by “removing” items and having them then subtract amounts.
At a restaurant or have a receipt from one? Have your student find a 20% tip to add to your bill.
Point Out
Point out when math is being used in daily life to your student. Ask mathematical questions about the time, such as how many minutes until the next hour and how many cups are needed in recipes.
Kids are using math even when they don’t know it. By pointing it out and showing how you use math daily it will slowly sink in that math is something that is used everywhere and will help them make connection to in class learning.

Have students log in through clever to access ixl. Students can practice any skill at any time! They will receive instant feedback on their progress which also includes detailed explanations on how to solve problems.
Check out these online games that students can play to practice current and past math content.
In class, students use a variety of manipulatives to understand and solve problems. Here you will find digital manipulatives that your student can use and explore when the physical manipulatives are not able to be accessed.
Games
Multiplication War
Pickle
A game to develop number sense! On a piece of paper draw 10 boxes in a vertical collum. Grab a deck of cards and take out all the face cards or use the digital 9-sided dice. Draw three cards or roll the dice 3 times and decide what place value to put each number in to form a three-digit number. Write that number in one of the 10 boxes. Your goal is to fill in the boxes from the smallest to the largest number. Check out the challenge version!
Grab a deck of cards and take all the face cards out. Split the deck between each player. Players turn over the top card on their deck and the first person to multiply the numbers shown and say the product out loud is the winner and keeps both cards. If there is a tie, cards go in the middle and the winner of the next round gets that pile.

Coordinate Plane Battleships
Each player has a blank coordinate plane. They then plot their “battleships” without the other seeing. They will each plot 4 battleships. One that is 5 units long, 4 units long, 3 units long, and 2 units long.
Player 1 goes first and calls out their first coordinate such as (5, 2) “five two.” If it hits one of the coordinates on player 2’s grid, player 2 calls out ‘hit’ and player 1 marks it off. If it misses player 2’s battleships, they call out ‘miss’ and player 1 marks it as a miss. Take turns repeating this process. The winner is the first person to sink all the other player’s battleships.
Zoom to Zero
Each player starts with the number 999 on their paper. Player 1 rolls a die 3 times They then arrange the
digits they rolled in a certain order. For example, a roll of 2,
4, and 3 can make the numbers 243, 423, 324, etc. Subtract the 3-digit number from 999. Players continue to take turns rolling the
dice, creating a number, and subtracting
the number from 999. The first player to reach 0 exactly is the
winner.
Digital Dice
Opposites Go Fish!
Only use cards 1-10 from the deck.
Black cards are positive and red cards are negative.
The goal is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand by making opposite pairs like a red four (-4) and a black four (4).
Each player receives 5 cards. On their turn they can lay down any opposite pairs that they have and then ask a person for a card they need. If the person they ask doesn't have it, they have to Go fish and draw a card.
The person with no cards left first wins!
